EU draft rule would cut Egypt off from EU-origin scrap from May 2027; Egyptian mills import about 50% of ferrous scrap from EU
مصر قد تفقد واردات الخردة الأوروبية من 2027
A European Commission draft would remove Egypt from the list of countries allowed to import EU scrap once the new Waste Shipment Regulation applies on 21 May 2027. Feedback closes 16 October 2026. Egypt gets about half its ferrous scrap from the EU, so its mills will need other suppliers, which is an opening for GCC, US and other non-EU scrap exporters.
