Egypt has approved new steelworks totalling 3.8 Mtpa in the Ain Sokhna and East Port Said industrial zones. Beshay and Suez Steel have also commissioned or upgraded DRI modules, and Ezz is spending $1.16bn on expansion. Egypt's roughly 20 Mt of EAF-based capacity is a growing market for scrap exporters.
